Dank voor de feedback, Frits. Ik heb het aangepast. Ja Wim, gezien, de hele partij is een meesterwerk. Ik herinnerde mij nog dat hij ook in Aagaard’s Positional Play voorkwam en heb het even nagezocht. Hij geeft (bij oefenopgave 17) aan: 22…Bxa4 23.Rc7 favours White. He will win back the pawn immediately. For example 23…Bc6?! 24.Ng5 Rf8? 25.Nxf7! and White wins.

Kramnik gave a way for Black to handle the pressure: 22…Ke7! 23.b5 axb5 24.axb5 Bd7 25.Rc7 b6 White of course has some advantage here, for example 26.Rb7 Rhb8 27.Rxb8 Rxb8 28.Ra1, but it is not a great deal. Black should be able to defend this and take the crown; but alas, it was not to be…

Leuk die partij van Kramnik tegen Leko. Kramnik speelt de doorschuifvariant van het Caro Kann en kiest voor de Tal variant. In zijn commentaar schrijft Raymond Keene. Leko exhibits an alarming tendency towards a bunker mentality. After this passive move, Black is strangled in the style of his hero Petrosian or of Nimzowitsch, the arch-blockader and early prophet of 3 e5 against the Caro-Kann.

Aangezien c4 (c5) de kenmerkende zet van het Siciliaans is, lijkt me 1.c4 e5 Siciliaans in de voorhand, net als (wel correct) 1.c4 e5 2.g3 c6 een Alapin in de nahand wordt genoemd, want hier is c6 (c3) de kenmerkende zet.
